Practical aspects of sound that are related to its characteristics in a given space and to its propagation through specified media are discussed. Basic terminology, noise measurement, and practical calculation procedures such as combining sound levels and frequency analyses are emphasized. Noise propagation characteristics of a work area can be used to predict sound pressure levels that will be produced by noise-making equipment.
