Review and evaluation of analytical methods for environmental studies of fibrous particulate exposures.
NIOSH 1977 May; :1-71
Sampling and analytical methods which may be used to identify and quantify fibrous particulates in environmental samples are reviewed and the electron microscopic methods used by NIOSH are described in detail. The main topics covered include: optical microscopic methods; differential thermal anlaysis; X-ray diffraction; microchemical techniques; comparison of transmission and scanning electron microscopy; methods for fiber sampling and analysis, including sample collection and preparation, analytical instrumentation, and identification and characterization procedures. Electron photomicrographs of many fibrous minerals are included.
