NIOSH Analytical Method Silica, Crystalline, S315, (Set S).

The standard method is described for the determination of the crystalline silica (7631869), quartz (1317799), cristobalite, and tridymite (1317948), for use in compliance with the OSHA standard, which is dependent on the content of silicon-dioxide. The air sample is drawn through a silver membrane filter, which is subjected to X-ray diffraction analysis. The method has been validated over the range of 0.167 to 0.846 milligrams per cubic meter using a sample of granite dust known to contain 29.35 percent silicon- dioxide. The coefficient of variation in the tests sampling was advantages and disadvantages, apparatus, reagents, procedure, collection and shipping of samples, sample analysis, determination of percent of silicon-dioxide in bulk air sample, calibration and standards, and calculations.
