The sixth edition of NIOSH Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances, listing known substances according to Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, provides basic information on the known toxic and biological effects of chemical substances for the general use of all concerned with the proper and safe handling of chemicals. The 1976 registry contains 82,908 listings of chemical substances, including approximately 5,228 new compounds which had not appeared in the 1975 edition. In addition to nomenclature and synonyms, the data fields also contain information as to carcinogenesis (1,913 compounds), mutagenesis (300 compounds), teratogenesis (1,717 compounds), OSHA Standard (1,529 compounds), human toxic effects (787 compounds), recommended standards from NIOSH criteria documents (218 compounds), and Chemical Abstract Service Registry Number (8,218 compounds).
