Government hygienists pioneer in TLV's, health standards.

The objectives and goals of the Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists are to promote sound industrial hygiene practices; coordinate industrial hygiene activities through official Federal, State, local, and territorial industrial hygiene agencies; encourage the free exchange of experience and ideas among industrial hygiene personnel in agencies and educational institutions; collect and make available to all governmental industrial hygienists information and data of assistance to them; and to hold annual and other meetings needed to effectuate the purpose of the organization. The various committees of the association have participated in the review of NIOSH criteria documents, have been active in the development of threshold limit values, have done fundamental research on monitoring and control of industrial chemicals, and issued several publications in the areas of occupational health and safety. These publications include the subject fields of chemical substances in the work room environment, air sampling instrumentation, air emission estimates, laser hazards, industrial ventilation, asbestos fibers, quartz, cotton dust, monitoring workplace hazards, and carcinogens in the workplace.
