Acting on a request from an authorized union representative to evaluate the potential hazards associated with the inking and soldering operations and to determine the nature of dizziness experienced by some employees exposed to vapors and fumes, a Health Hazard Evaluation survey was performed by NIOSH at the battery cable manufacturing department (SIC-3694) of the Packard Electric Division, G.M.C., Warren, Ohio, on October 19-21, 1976. On the basis of air sample results, confidential interviews with 26 affected workers, and review of company medical and environmental data, it was concluded that exposures to emission from the inks, fluxes and solders, did not pose a health hazard to the employees at the time of the survey. Recommendations are made regarding minor improvements of ventilation system and layout.
