An Evaluation of the National Institute for Occupational Safety And Health Query and Answer Technical Information Service.

The query and answer technical information service of the NIOSH Technical Information Service Branch, TISB, was evaluated. A profile of the typical requester of information was obtained. Most were satisfied with the information they received. The effectiveness of the information provided as a catalyst for beneficial change in occupation safety and health is considered reasonably good. The time in which answers were processed varied, depending on the person initially consulted, and the sources used by the TISB personnel. Recommendations for improving the service include, increasing publicity, better determination of the market, increased use of pamphlets, improved relevance of response, user feedback, and faster response time.
