Industrial Hygiene Service Laboratory Quality Control Manual Technical Report No. 78.
Manual intended to direct the establishment and provide guidance in the maintenance of a quality control system in the NIOSH service laboratory, and to serve as a source of directive and instructive material for other participating laboratories in the establishment and maintenance of laboratory quality control within those laboratories. The manual describes administrative systems and statistical techniques, but no specific calibration procedures or analytical methodology. The basis for the use of statistical techniques is described. Specific objectives are: to develop rugged, accurate methods; to establish the level of quality of the laboratory's routine performance; to make necessary methodology changes; to monitor routine laboratory performance and to provide corrective actions; to participate in the quality evaluation programs with other laboratories in order to achieve uniform quality levels; to improve and validate laboratory methodologies by participation in method validation collaborative tests.
