Abstract
This continuation of NIOSH-00068651 consists of the toxicology of the plastics industry, with a list of manufacturers and the bibliography. General topics include plastics, elastomers, synthetic fibers, the toxicology of the macromolecule, industrial toxicology, health, hygiene and safety. Specific materials include additives in plastics, amorphous silicon-dioxide (7631869) for filler, flame retardants, reinforcers, p-phenylenediamines (106503), acrylamide-monomer, acrylic-monomers, acrylonitrile (107131), alkyl- nitriles, amines, thiols, halogenated monomers, isocyanates, styrene (100425), vinyl-chloride (75014), pulmonary function defects in nonsmoking vinyl-chloride workers, acrylic polymers, alkyd resins, ethoxylin resins, fluorine-containing polymers, phenoplasts and aminoplasts, polyesters, synthetic fibers and vinyl polymers. Miscellaneous studies of plastics industry toxicology include cancer mortality in U.S. counties with plastics and related industries, effects of smoke from combustion of polymeric materials, occupational skin diseases in the plastics industry, control of polymer production and disposal, controls in the rubber industry, halogenated hydrocarbons in rubber processing, and toxicology of pyrolysis and combustion hazards.
