A broad overview of an industrial hygiene walk-through is presented. The industrial hygienist will focus on the nature of the plant processes, the location of the processes in relation to one another, the way in which procurement practices can create hazards by unilateral substitutions of chemicals in a process, the guides for determining the hazards of different substances, methods of sampling the work atmosphere, and types of personal protective equipment in use. Available computerized information sources are suggested.
