Exposures of employees to chemical agents at a molding operation of the Welch Plastics and Manufacturing Company (SIC-2969) in Columbus, Ohio, were not found to be toxic under the conditions observed by the NIOSH hazard evaluation personnel. Worker exposures to benzene (71432), bis-chloromethyl-ether (542881), 2,6-ditert-butyl-p-cresol (128370), carbon-monoxide (630080), formaldehyde (50000), hydrogen- chloride (7647010), hydrogen-cyanide (74908), particulates, phthalates, styrene (100425) and vinyl-chloride (75014) were determined by personal and area air sampling. The workers experienced upper respiratory and eye irritation associated with the use of a reground polyvinyl-chloride (9002862) and acrylonitrile (9003569) butadiene-polystyrene material. The use of this material has been discontinued.
