The conclusions of a NIOSH walk-through survey to discuss the environmental monitoring program and to observe the manufacturing process at a neoprene production plant (2822), are presented. Recommendations are made to the effect that reduction of exposure to the lowest possible level should continue to be a goal because of the possible mutagenicity and carcinogenicity of chloroprene (126998). Furthermore, the analytical procedure used by du Pont should be verified and the chloroprene concentrations at neoprene (9010995) user's facilities should be monitored to ascertain exposure.
