Barnhart WL; Toney CR; Devlin JB
NIOSH 1975 Aug:110 pages
An in-depth survey of three vinyl-chloride (75014) manufacturing and seven polyvinyl-chloride (PVC) (9002862) processing plants is performed to determine the quantity of vinyl-chloride (VC) existing in the breathing zone of each employee tested in the surveys. Area samples are also collected in a number of locations. Topics include: description of vinyl-chloride manufacturing processes such as acetylene (74862) hydrogen-chloride (7647010) process, ethylene- dichloride (107062) pyrolysis process, and oxyhydrochlorination process; description of PVC manufacturing processes such as compounding, extrusion, molding, calendering, thermoforming, bonding of polyvinyl-chloride, foams, fibers, and plastisols; description of vinyl-chloride monomer plants surveyed; description of PVC processing plants surveyed; job description for PVC processing personnel, sampling procedure, sampling results, VC concentration data, and analysis of data.
