Machine guarding - assessment of need.
NIOSH 1975 Feb; :1-202
Methods of compiling, reporting and analyzing research and survey data are described as related to the assessment of need for machine guarding on woodworking machines, metalworking machines, and power transmission devices. Machine-related accidents are cited as accounting for 10 percent of all industrial accidents, with 6.6 percent of all accidents being related to unguarded or poorly guarded machines. Data indicate that 25 to 50 percent of the machines in use are unguarded or poorly guarded at the point of operation.
