Abstract
In-vitro experiments indicate that the tone of the isolated guinea- pig trachea is modulated by the prostaglandins released subsequent to injection of histamine (51456) and acetylcholine (51843), if the prostaglandins (11000263) reach the airway smooth muscle. To prevent prostaglandin interference when assessing the effects of contractile agents, the tracheal strips required treatment with prostaglandin synthesis inhibitors, including aspirin (50782) and indomethacin (53861).
