Abstract
The toxicity and carcinogenicity of industrial tars are studied in experimental animals by: whole-body exposures to aerosolized solids - free coal tar; whole body exposure to aerosolized coal tar with 20% benzene, toluene, and the xylenes; and skin painting with crude coal tar or coal tar with 20% benzene, toluene, and xylenes. Coal tar is fractionated to identify the biologically active components.
