NIOSH recommendations for an occupational exposure standard for ammonia (7664417) include: air concentration, sampling, air analysis, medical examinations, posting areas where there is potential exposure to ammonia, personal protective equipment, informing employees of hazards from ammonia work practices, sanitation facilities, monitoring and recordkeeping. Biological effects of exposure to ammonia are reviewed, and information is included on sampling, analytical methods, environmental levels, and engineering controls. The development of the standard is described, and work practices are recommended for he use of ammonia.
