Survey of a plant manufacturing nonnuclear hardware for weapons systems reveals concentrations of toluene-diisocyanate (584849) exceeding the ceiling standard in mixing and molding operations and levels of methyl-ethyl-ketone (78933) used in cleaning the impregnator exceeding excursion limits. Employee complaints include respiratory symptoms and recurrent dermatitis from epoxy resins. Recommendations include provision of local exhaust ventilation in areas where toluene diisocyanate (26471625) and methyl ethyl ketone are used, reassignment of individuals sensitized to epoxy compounds, and prevention of dermatitis by protective clothing and good housekeeping.
