Abstract
Chemical analysis of air samples collected in the canning room for hickory sawdust thermal decomposition products at a meat processing plant did not reveal the presence of aldehydes, esters, ketones, and alcohols. Total particulate concentration levels of the smoke ranged from 0.17 to 0.78 milligrams per cubic meter. Workers complained of respiratory irritation, and cases of dermatitis were identified in workers using a cleansing agent.
