Acute effects of ozone on cat lungs II. Structural.

Am Rev Respir Dis 1974 Aug; 110(2):157-169
Cats exposed to various concentrations of ozone (10028156) for several hours showed dose related cytological changes in the airways and lung parenchyma. The most consistent ultrastructural changes were cytoplasmic vacuolization of ciliated cells and condensed mitochondria with abnormal cristae configuration. Also described are alveolar ultrastructural changes. Increased airway resistance was dose related but the decline of diffusing capacity was not affected by the concentration of ozone.
