A method is presented for the determination of airborne hexavalent- chromium (7440473) concentrations. Samples collected on polyvinyl- chloride (9002862) membrane filters are easily washed clean with acid allowing a colorimetric determination with a dimethylcarbazide solution (against a potassium-bichromate (7778509) standard) up to 2 weeks following the initial sampling. The polyvinyl-chloride filter allows a test that is specific for hexavalent-chromium, a condition that permits evaluating compliance with the OSHA standard for that substance.
