Abstract
Sound pressure level measurements are made in an electric ship containing three vacuum pumps and two air compressors for the buildings vacuum and compressed air systems, a small refrigeration unit, and a small compressor. The sound level is found to be insufficient for producing a hearing loss problem, but to be annoying, interfering with conversation. Recommendations for noise reduction include separation or isolation of the equipment from the electric shop by a wall or new location, inspection of equipment for worn or defective parts as noise producers, and use of a sound survey for noise reduction if a wall is constructed.
