UICC/Cincinnati classification of the radiographic appearances of pneumoconiosis - a cooperative study by the UICC Committee.
Chest 1970 Jul; 58(1):57-67
Report of an international group of experts convened under the auspices of the Committee on Asbestos and Cancer of the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) (Cincinnati, October- November 1967) on a proposed classification scheme for the systematic recording of the radiographic appearances associated with exposure to asbestos and other dusts. The practicability of the classification was tested, and a study made of observer variations during extensive reading trials carried out in 1967 and 1968. The new classification incorporates all the major features of the 1958 ILO scheme, together with the additional features seen in asbestosis. Further tests are needed, however, to establish whether it is adequate for the classification of all types of pneumoconiosis.
