Long-term mortality study of steelworkers II. Mortality by level of income in whites and non-whites.
J Occup Med 1969 Aug; 11(8):411-416
Description of an index of income based on a steelworker's job classification scheme, and procedures for estimating the mortality of white and non-white steelworkers in terms of this index. Findings indicate a negative association between level of total job score or income and mortality for white workers. When workers are stratified by level of income, mortality differences disappear, and white and non-white mortality regresses to a common level.
