Industrial contact dermatitis: effect of the riot control agent ortho-chlorobenzylidene malononitrile.

Arch Dermatol 1973 Feb; 107(2):212-216
Twenty five of 28 workers in a chemical plant manufacturing ortho- chlorobenzylidene-malononitrile (2698411) (CS), a military riot control agent, gave a history of dermatitis involving the arms and neck. A significant sensitizing potential to CS exists in the industry, but irritancy is the major factor in the production and perpetuation of the dermatitis. Awareness of possible cutaneous responses to CS is advisable before its general adoption for use in military and civilian occupations and as the active ingredient in various personal protective devices.
