Abstract
The bases for present threshold limit (TL) values for inorganic and organic mercury (7439976) have been critically reviewed and found to have inherent weaknesses. Human observations spanning a period of 21 years suggest that tolerance to some forms of mercury may be greater than has been believed. The propriety of a single TL for all organomercurials is questioned. The use of data from clinical medicine and pharmacology in arriving at TL values is suggested.
