The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is closely monitoring an outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a novel (new) coronavirus (named “coronavirus disease 2019” or “COVID-19”) that was first detected in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China and which continues to expand. This is an emerging, rapidly evolving situation and CDC will provide updated information as it becomes available, in addition to updated guidance, on the CDC website. Investigating and responding to COVID-19 cases in non-healthcare work settings: Considerations for state and local health departments
Workplaces can present unique challenges for COVID-19 investigation and public health action. Because physical distancing may be difficult in some workplaces, and many jobs involve a high level of in-person interaction with the public, the virus could spread easily among workers and to members of the public in these settings. CDC has developed a toolkit for reviewing and recognizing both workplace (e.g. work environment, practices, policies, and processes) and workforce (e.g., language or literacy barriers) characteristics that are recommended for consideration during investigations and public health actions in work settings. This toolkit can help state and local health departments, as well as occupational safety and health professionals, more effectively investigate and respond to COVID-19 cases in non-healthcare work settings.
Protecting Seafood Processing Workers from COVID-19
Interim guidance is now available to help the seafood processing industry decrease the spread and impact of COVID-19 in the workplace. This guidance outlines recommended actions employers can take to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 in both onshore and offshore seafood processing worksites.
Manufacturing Facility Assessment Toolkit
A new Manufacturing Facility Assessment Toolkit is now available for occupational safety and health professionals and state and local public health officials to assess COVID-19 infection prevention and control measures at manufacturing facilities.
