Management structure for school screening

Maryland Department of Health (MDH) is leading the K-12 COVID-19 testing effort. To date, MDH has launched a procurement and contracted with five testing vendors. MDH has established registration links for the schools to sign up, linked the schools to vendors, and have answered all questions related to K-12 testing. As testing begins, MDH will continue to track testing data and monitor trends over the course of the school year.

Support provided to school districts

MDH has a comprehensive set of guidance for prevention and mitigation of COVID-19 in schools. This layered set of interventions allows for schools to combine a variety of prevention measures (masking, distancing, screening testing, filtration), contact tracing, and diagnostic testing to mitigate outbreaks in schools. Testing is the largest and most expansive effort. 20 out of 24 jurisdictions are using MDH’s testing resources for either the diagnostic testing, screening testing, or both.
