Radiation Emergency Preparedness Live Training, Webinars, and Meetings
CDC’s CRC SimPLER 101 Training: October 13, 2022
CDC will offer a live virtual training, “CRC SimPLER 101: Community Reception Center Simulation Program for Leveraging and Evaluating Resources – A Planning Tool for Public Health Emergencies,” from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. EDT on Thursday, October 13. This training will provide an overview of CRC SimPLER, which is used by health departments to present estimates about community reception center capacity when planning and responding to radiation emergencies.
The tool was developed based on user testing feedback from state, tribal, local, and territorial health departments around the country. The easy-to-understand and interpreted estimates from the tool can be presented to decision makers if, for example, additional resources are needed. The tool has a useful comparison feature that can demonstrate for decision makers how different scenarios affect the estimates.
The following presenters will provide an overview of community reception centers and the tool. They will also provide a demonstration of SimPLER with input from participants on what inputs and scenarios they would like to see to gain experience using CRC SimPLER.
- Lauren Finklea, physical scientist with CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health
- Commander Robert Garcia, U.S. Public Health Service, team lead and health education specialist with CDC’s Center for Preparedness and Response
