Scenario Two—Part Two

During a state championship basketball game, an athlete on the top ranked team began feeling light- headed, nauseated, and weak. Although he drank water during a time out, he was sweating profusely. He requested that the coach let him sit out and the athletic trainer began an evaluation.

 

The athletic trainer determined that the player was suffering from heat exhaustion and began treatment immediately.  

Allow the player to rest for a few minutes and to drink water.

While the player is resting and drinking water, sponge cool water on the player's head and skin to cool off.

Quickly immerse player in cool water and call the paramedics.
