Prevention

What should you have on the practice field to help prevent HRI?

 

         Plenty of water and sports beverages.

         Tubs of ice and water or some other method to cool athletes quickly.

         Shaded areas (provide shade tents if necessary).

Establish a plan to help prevent HRI:

 

         Set a schedule for frequent, mandatory water breaks.

         Follow the doctor recommended acclimatization schedule for the first practices.

         Pay attention to the current day's environment. (Is it too hot and humid to practice today?)

         Assess players each day on the previous day's performance. (Did any athlete exhibit HRI symptoms?)
