HEAT-RELATED ILLNESS

Answer

That is correct!

If you see any of the warning signs for heat stroke, you may be dealing with a life-threatening emergency. Have someone call for immediate medical assistance while you begin cooling the person who is ill. Response time will be critical.

Get the person to a shady area.

Remove restrictive clothing, equipment, and helmet.

         Cool the person rapidly:

Immerse him or her in a tub of cool water or ice water.

Place the person in a cool shower.

Spray the person with cool water from a garden hose.

Sponge the person with cool water.

Apply icebags at the neck, armpit, and groin area.

If the humidity is low, wrap the person in a cool, wet sheet and fan him or her vigorously.
