Environmental Public Health Performance Standards (EnvPHPS)

Environmental health programs: Use EnvPHPS to help make your environmental public health program more effective.

EnvPHPS describes activities, actions, and processes an EH program should perform to best provide 10 Essential Environmental Public Health Services to protect and improve environmental public health in its community.

EnvPHPS is based on the 10 Essential Environmental Public Health Services adapted from the 10 Essential Public Health Services released in 2002. The 2004 EnvPHPS and the 10 Essential Environmental Public Health Services they were based on served as the foundation for helping environmental health programs engage in performance improvement activities for many years. Although EnvPHPS has not been revised to address the 10 Essential Public Health Services released in 2020, it is still available for programs that want to use it.

EnvPHPS can help prepare for public health accreditation.

The self-assessment instrument is useful for identifying service gaps for health departments seeking accreditation. Action plans to address these gaps can be rolled into the larger improvement plan required for accreditation.
