Cora Peterson, PhD, MSc, is a senior health economist in the Division of Injury Prevention at the Injury Center. She leads economic evaluation, cost analysis, statistical analysis, and decision modeling studies to support resource allocation decisions related to injury and violence prevention. She has authored journal articles on a variety of related topics: the comprehensive cost of injury and violence morbidity and mortality in the United States; the lifetime cost of sexual violence, intimate partner violence and child maltreatment; health care resource utilization related to substance use disorder; and methods issues, such as how to improve cost estimates of hospital-based care, equity pitfalls in some policies and data sources, and options to operationalize cost analysis methods for public health studies.

Dr. Peterson joined CDC in 2011 through the Prevention Effectiveness Fellowship, a post-doctoral training program in health economics and decision sciences. Dr. Peterson received her BA degree in history from Wesleyan University and MSc and PhD degrees in social policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
