1. Improving care post overdose: New Mexico provided linkages to care for individuals discharged from emergency departments following a non-fatal overdose. This connects them to peer support services, naloxone, and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder which combines the use of medications with counseling and behavioral therapies.
2. Preparing inmates for re-entry: New Mexico trained state Corrections Department staff, re-entry, specialists, and incarcerated individuals on overdose prevention to reduce the likelihood of overdose and recidivism following release.
