Louisiana

1. Improving data quality: Louisiana added opioid-specific data elements to their death reporting system and conducted targeted outreach to coroner offices with high levels of non-specified overdose deaths to improve reporting of opioid data on coroner reports.

2. Understanding opioid-related accidents: Louisiana now screens existing blood samples collected from motor vehicle traffic crashes where impairment was suspected. This helps capture data on suspected opioid-related motor vehicle crash incidents to inform law enforcement and public health strategies.
