1. Reducing post-release overdose: Montana partnered with the Department of Corrections to provide timely data to inform and facilitate programs for early access to medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for justice-involved persons and reduce the chance of post-release overdose. MAT is a treatment for opioid use disorder combining the use of medications with counseling and behavioral therapies.
2. Understanding overdose trends: Montana developed and deployed a new death investigation system that integrates data from coroners, medical examiners, law enforcement, and health providers to support more timely and in-depth investigations to understand opioid overdose trends.
