Even in the face of a pandemic, the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) continues to save millions of lives as a leader in the global response to HIV. To date, PEPFAR has saved more than 20 million lives, and helped more than 17 million people get access to life-saving HIV treatment in 2020 alone. As a key implementing partner, CDC plays a critical role in these efforts – bringing scientific and on-the-ground expertise to bear in the fight against HIV. In fact, a new analysis shows that, in 2020, CDC’s global efforts to treat and prevent HIV contributed to more than half of all key PEPFAR outcomes.
