Travel Notice: Salmonella Newport in Mexico

CDC has issued a travel health notice for a strain of multidrug-resistant Salmonella Newport in Mexico. If you plan to travel to Mexico, see the notice to learn about this strain, some of the foods associated with it, and steps you can take to prevent a Salmonella infection. Health care providers: if a patient has a known or suspected infection with this strain of Salmonella Newport, follow CDC’s treatment guidance.

You can help CDC solve foodborne outbreaks. If you think you have food poisoning:

  • Talk to your healthcare provider to see if you should be tested for a foodborne disease
  • Write down what you ate and what you did in the week before you got sick
  • Report your illness to your health department
