Deputy Director for Public Health Science and Surveillance (DDPHSS)


Daniel B. Jernigan, MD, MPH, is the Deputy Director for Public Health Science and Surveillance (DDPHSS). In this role, Dr. Jernigan works at the intersection of public health, healthcare, and health IT to advance agency-wide science, surveillance, and data priorities and strategies. He directs four CDC centers and offices and serves as an advisor to the CDC Director. He is also a lead for CDC’s Data Modernization Initiative (DMI).
