Site Visits

From December 2012 to April 2013, CDC Foundation and CDC staff conducted site visits to each of the seven communities chosen as examples of programs implementing a Whole Community approach to emergency management. The site visits offered a unique opportunity to learn from program staff, partners, and participants about program history, operations, and community relationships. The aim was to understand how the seven programs implement a Whole Community approach to emergency management, specifically how they understand the complexity, needs, and capabilities of their communities, how leaders and partners impact program success, and how local groups and social networks are engaged and empowered. CDC is synthesizing these findings for the purpose of informing recommended methods for other communities to participate with FEMA in a Whole Community Approach to Emergency Management.
