Maryland Winter Storm
Supporting Winter Storm Jonas Response to and Recovery

In January 2016, Winter Storm Jonas brought almost 30 inches of snow, high winds, and coastal flooding and forced Maryland to declare a state of emergency. Through planning supported by PHEP, the state staffed the state emergency operations center, coordinated with emergency medical services, conducted surveillance for storm-related illness and injury, and communicated with vulnerable groups before, during, and after the storm to ensure their medical needs were met. As a result, the state was able to mitigate cold weather deaths and injuries associated with Winter Storm Jonas.
