Configure Apple Mac Computers for Smart Card Readers
The following information and recommended steps are for installing Smart Card readers and software for Apple Macintosh (Mac) computers. These steps may not work on all macOS or OS X versions and configurations. ITSO does not provide customer support beyond the recommended procedure described in this document for configuring Smart Card readers on personally owned (POE) Apple Mac computers.
Recommended Operating Systems (OS) and Smart Card Readers
Computer Operating Systems:
- Apple macOS 10.14 Mojave
- Apple macOS 10.13 High Sierra
Apple documentation indicates this may work with older OS X versions back to 10.11 El Captain; however, this was not be tested by ITSO.
Smart Card Readers:
- Folding SCR3500A portable USB reader
- Wired SCR3500 USB reader
For portable folding Smart Card readers, contact the ITSO ServiceDesk at 404-639-6000 (Atlanta) or 1-888-647-3375 (outside Atlanta) to have one mailed to you.
Installation
- Uninstall any existing Citrix Receiver client software that may be on the computer by running uninstall or dragging to the Trash.
- Download and install the latest version of Citrix Workspace for Apple.
- Reboot the computer.
Notes
- The first time you use your Smart Card, the Apple Mac may ask if you want to “pair” the Smart Card credentials with the signed in Mac user. This stores your credentials in the Mac Keychain and associates them with the user. We recommend not doing this because issues can occur in the future when you update your Smart Card credentials.
- Some smart card drivers can be found here.
Tested Configuration
- macOS Sierra 10.14.5
- Safari 12.1.1
- Citrix Workspace 1906
