Several target populations were identified in the funding announcement based on research indicating that they have an increased risk of cancer or disparities in access to genetic counseling and testing. These include—
- People of Ashkenazi Jewish decent.
- African Americans.
- Cancer survivors.
- Relatives of high-risk individuals.
- Rural populations.
Applicants are not required to work with target populations when developing activities, but it is encouraged. The applicant may propose to address target populations in one or more activities presented in their application. If additional target populations are identified, they may also be addressed, as appropriate, with the approval of the project officer.
