Women with Diabetes: Quality of Health Care, 2004-2005 PDF (1/27/09)
CDC and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality are pleased to release this report, which uses national data sets to show gaps in knowledge about quality of care among women with diagnosed diabetes. The report examines the quality of health care in the United States for women with and without diagnosed diabetes, using the most scientifically-based measures and national data sources available.

National Birth Defects Prevention Study Finds Pre-Pregnancy (8/7/08)Diabetes Increases Risk for Multiple Types of Birth Defects
Women who receive a diagnosis of diabetes before they become pregnant are three to four times more likely to have a child with one or even multiple birth defects than a mother who is not diabetic, according to a study by CDC, released in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
