- Symptoms are like seasonal flu and include fever, cough sore throat, body aches, headaches, chills and fatigue, and sometimes, diarrhea and vomiting.
Cover Your Sneezes and Coughs
- Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
Wash Hands Often
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
- Wash your hands after touching used tissues and similar waste.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
- Stay home if you get sick. CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
Have a Plan
- Have a plan to care for sick family members.
- Stock up on household, health, and emergency supplies, such as water, TylenolŪ, non-perishable foods.
Take Action to Stay Healthy
- Avoid close contact (less than about 6 feet away) with the sick person as much as possible.
- Eating utensils should be washed either in a dishwasher or by hand with water and soap.
- Find healthy ways to deal with stress and anxiety.
