2013 Watsonian Society - Annual Banquet

Dr. Beth Meyerson, M.Div., Ph.D. was the keynote speaker for the Annual Watsonian Society Banquet on Thursday, November 7, 2013. She indicated that in her academia role she is able to explore research questions such as "can we reduce cervical cancer screening and follow up disparities by integrating the services in STD? OR Can we extend the public health reach of pharmacies for HIV testing, childhood immunizations (revisited), HPV vaccination, etc."

William C Watson, Jr
Passing of William C Watson, Jr

Bill Watson made such a positive impression in his 36-years career with CDC that two of its hallmarks bear his name. One is the William C. Watson Jr. Medal of Excellence, the CDC’s highest honor. The other is the Watsonian Society, which aims to inculcate the leadership attributes Watson embodied in future CDC managers.

Author's Corner

Public Health Advisors have made many contributions to public health. Their story has been told in the book, Ready To Go by Beth Myerson, Fred Martich and Jerry Naehr (Fred and Jerry are both retired PHAs). PHAs have also contributed to literature, e.g., Bob Emerson, and Phillip Finley.

Dr. William H. Foege, MD, MPH was the keynote speaker for the Annual Watsonian Society Banquet on Tuesday, October 23, 2012.  In his keynote speech, Dr. Foege’s take away message was to always do the right thing no matter how difficult and treat everyone with the utmost respect!

Watsonian Presidential Award for Service
Bob Kohmescher, a well known and appreciated PHA at CDC retired after 37 years of Public Health Service. He was recognized by Watsonians for his long time contributions to the executive committee, for his tirelessly dedicated service to the Society and to the Public Health Advisors at CDC.
