Watsonian Society Adopts A Platoon

UPDATE!: OUR ADOPT-A-PLATOON is scheduled to come HOME! (From Stacy Harper, June 9, 2005)

The men of 1st Platoon, B Co., 1-503rd Infantry Regiment are scheduled to return to Fort Carson, Colorado, in July. As a result, donations are not needed at this time. There is always the possibility that they may be extended, so your help and donations may be needed in the future.

Four boxes were sent out this week, but due to the time it takes them to get to the unit, no more will be sent unless we get news of an extension. In the meantime, we can be glad that they’re coming home!

The Watsonian Society is now supporting the men of the 1st PLT, B Co, 1-503rd Infantry Regiment until their return stateside through Adopt a Platoon. Here is the link to learn more about this very worthy organization: www.adoptaplatoon.org. Want to see some pictures of the guys? Go to: http://www.b-co.1-503rd.org/

For ideas on items to send over, please see this webpage: http://www.adoptaplatoon.org/new/pdf/care.pdf (Alternatively, go to adoptaplatoon.org and click on “ideas for care packages.” Remember NOT to send religious articles, pork, or any other item that would offend the religious beliefs of the country in which the men are stationed.

Stacy Harper (SLHarper@cdc.gov contact her with any questions!) is collecting all goods and sending them over on weekly basis to the approximately 30 men in the platoon. What we need RIGHT NOW are cards and letters to send over. The men can get desperately lonely for their homes, so any word of encouragement is really appreciated.

More info on the individuals of the 1st PLT, as soon as it’s available!
For those of you who are interested, like most units, they have a long and illustrious history. You may find this at : http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/agency/army/1-503inf.htm
