Average Medical Cost per Violent Death, by Age and Intent, United States, 2005

The average medical cost per death was higher for homicides ($6,265) than for suicides ($3,056) for all ages combined. Average medical costs per homicides were consistently higher than for suicides across all age groups except age 10-14 years. The average medical cost for suicide was fairly consistent over the age groups, with the exception of children age 10-14 years (average medical cost of $8,916).
