- How can I obtain images at the PHIL web site for my own use?
For public domain images (see below) you can simply "right click" on the image and save it to your hard drive or other storage medium. - What regulations govern the use of the images in PHIL?
- Most of the images in the collection are in the public domain and are thus free of any copyright restrictions. If you look directly beneath the image you will see a fair use statement that tells if the image is public domain or copyright protected.
- For public domain images, permission is not required but PHIL does ask that you credit the original institution and contributor (when known) whenever the image is used in any publicly distributed media. The name and contact information of the content provider can be found in the image information table directly below each image.
- If the image is copyright protected, then you will have to contact the content provider to get usage permission. PHIL does not have the authority to grant usage for any copyrighted images in the library. If you have difficulty contacting a content provider, PHIL may be able to help, but PHIL cannot act on their behalf.
